Media Night at HdM University: Showcasing Print Innovation & Creativity - FitInSanity
At Hochschule der Medien’s (HdM) Media Night, students from the Print Media and Packaging Technologies course and other study courses impressed attendees with a range of creative and technically advanced projects.
One of the standout presentations was the debut of a fully produced book based on Bret Easton Ellis’ infamous novel, American Psycho – titled “FitInSanity” This project was a comprehensive exercise in end-to-end book production, where students were responsible for every phase of development. They began with conceptualization and visual storytelling, translating the novel’s dark, satirical tone into compelling imagery through original photography and carefully crafted graphic design layouts. The mood and aesthetic were meticulously chosen to reflect the novel’s chilling atmosphere, with stark contrasts, minimalist typography, and a sharp focus on psychological tension.
The project didn’t stop at the creative phase. Students also managed the technical aspects of print production, including prepress preparation, color management, and the physical printing process. The final product was a professionally bound book, demonstrating the seamless integration of creative design and precise technical execution, emphasizing the depth of knowledge students acquire throughout their studies.
In addition, the Advanced Labs showcased projects highlighting packaging design, color management, variable data printing, and screen printing. One standout was a memory game designed for visually impaired, combining tactile screen-printed elements and customized variable data to create an accessible, engaging experience.
The event underscored the students’ ability to merge creativity with technical expertise, demonstrating the evolving potential of print media in today’s world.
To expand the project’s reach, students also created an Instagram account, a dedicated website, and a LinkedIn page, showcasing their skills in both print and digital media.
