My name is Sofia Hagman, and I am currently in my second semester of a Bachelor’s degree in Print Media and Packaging Technologies at the Hochschule der Medien (HdM). I come from Bengtsfors, a small town in the west of Sweden. Growing up in Bengtsfors, I was determined to follow my path and not let my circumstances define my future. I had no prior experience in the printing industry, but I was determined to pursue a technical degree in engineering.

I took the leap of faith and dived into an unfamiliar world, and it was a transformative experience. I am certain that this decision will shape my future in ways I cannot yet imagine. This journey has expanded my technical knowledge and enriched my personal growth. This program has given me invaluable connections that will shape my career, and I have interacted with a more diverse set of people than ever before, thanks to the international nature of the program. This exposure has made me more open and accepting of diverse perspectives. Each culture offers unique ways of handling various life situations, and I am confident in my ability to embrace these differences.

Having only completed one semester, I have already come to realize how unaware I was of the intricacies of the world around me. The curriculum has introduced me to the fundamentals of printing technologies, engineering principles, science, and physics. This comprehensive education allows me to view the world through a new, more technical lens.

If you’re considering a technical degree, I wholeheartedly encourage you to take the plunge and embrace the challenge. The prospect of learning new skills every day is incredibly motivating. While the subjects we study are indeed challenging, I firmly believe that with the right attitude and a willingness to learn, anyone can succeed.
