Hi, I’m Lukas. I started my PhD here at the HDM in May 2024. I was born and raised in a small village near Stuttgart. In 2017, I started studying nanoscience in Tübingen and completed it with a Master’s degree seven years later. I’ve always been interested in natural science, and the great thing about nanoscience is that it combines biology, physics, and chemistry. I gained a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge there. However, I decided not to finish my master’s thesis. I love doing research, so I knew a doctorate with its own small research topic was the next logical step. But why did I leave the University of Tübingen and start my Ph.D. here? Many people have asked me this question. After finishing my master’s thesis in February 2024, I realized that the research at the university was not applicable at all. This bothered me, and it’s a reason why I was not motivated all the time during my master’s thesis. With that, I decided to leave the university and search for PhD positions. One of them was the HdM with the topic “development of a bio-based adhesive for the packaging and paper industry,” and I got the position. A research topic where I can combine my natural knowledge and industrial interest also exists.

The opportunity to do my PhD here at HdM is great, and this opens even more opportunities for me in the future.
