Druck und Medien Award 2021

The “Druck und Medien Award” are considered the most important award in the German printing industry. Three groups of students from the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) were nominated in the category “The Heidelberg Award – Student or Student Group of the Year”. The awards were presented in Berlin’s Grand Hyatt Hotel on November 4th 2021.

The project work, a book called “Please turn off your pop-up blocker” won the first prize. As you can imagine from the title, it is a pop-up book. Ten PMT students created and produced this book in which they present their hometown or home country. They have staged their cultural or historical backgrounds in the form of “pop-ups”. A total of ten different countries are showcased in the printed work. The project was coached by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gunter Hübner.

The second price went to the team of the book “Global Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Print and Media Industries”. In this book project, students from the PMT programme investigated the impact of Covid-19 on the print and media industry in Germany and their home countries. They compiled their findings from interviews and surveys and some reprints in different sections of the book, which can be identified by the usage of different sustainable materials. The team was also supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gunter Hübner.

The third award went to the project group of “Visions of Space and Time”. This is a 360-degree campaign for the organisation “DAS KAUFHAUS”, an institution of the Neue Arbeit gGmbH, which runs several social second-hand department stores in the greater Stuttgart area. “Visions of Space and Time” was implemented as part of the interdisciplinary course “Campaign Management” taught by Prof. Dr. Volker Jansen. The project involved 61 students from the bachelor’s degree programmes Print Media Technologies, Media Management, Crossmedia Editorial/Public Relations as well as Advertising and Market Communication.
